Long gone are the days when office furniture meant a simple computer desk and a filing cabinet. In this day and age, we have all sorts of technology to accommodate for. There are photocopiers, drafting tables, large networks of workstations, and much more to take into account.
Getting the best deal on this excess in office furniture can be tough. And the question arises as to whether not the extra money is worth it in the first place- so what is a business to do?
Discount Office Furniture Vs Brand Name Office Furniture
There is a certain place for budget cuts, and then certain places for excess spending. Office furniture is one of the categories that floats somewhere in the middle between the two.
Some claim that brand name furniture that specializes in new-age design and comfort is worth the money. The reasoning behind this claim is simple: happy and comfortable workers are more efficient than uninspired and unhappy workers.
One good example of this is Google, who is a company that specializes in employee satisfaction. Google remains to be one of the best places to work for- and if you've seen their office furniture, you can guess it wasn't the discount brand at the handy shop. Google claims that the extra style inspires creativity- and we can't disagree.
But discount furniture is what most businesses side with. After all, how much more money can one spend before trying to make employees more inspired? For most businesses, the return on investment just isn't anywhere near what they'd like. The result: you'll likely stick with discount office furniture long before splurging on new-age furniture.
Arguments for Work Safety and Tax Write-offs
One of the leading problems in workplace safety is carpal tunnel syndrome. This affliction is caused by poor posture in the workplace- something many brand name products fix. Some could argue that the company would be less responsible for injuries with these ergonomic brands of office furniture. In many respects, they are right- carpal tunnel is indeed a very real threat.
To help justify the cause, some argue that the tax write-offs that are available for office furniture makes the price of ergonomic designs much easier to stomach. This will put many office products in reach for businesses- but careful spending is still needed. There are limits to the tax write-offs, and even then, the tax breaks only come once a year.
One clever strategy many businesses engage in is last-minute shopping. That way they can get a return on their money much sooner, so waiting the year out isn't a problem (whereas the money could be better used in reinvesting into the business).
When Money Isn't an Option
If money wasn't an option, what should you splurge on? First and foremost, safety should be addressed. Chairs with supportive backs are a must. Keyboards and mice with ergonomic designs that counteract carpal tunnel are also worthy of a purchase.
Only after safety is addressed should one consider style and brand name options. It's nice to have a decorated office space to inspire and give a positive attitude. When money isn't an option, this will indeed benefit those who use the office. (Studies show interesting colours and styles do, in fact, inspire creativity and help overall efficiency on average.)
In the end, it's good to have an accountant nearby for tax advice, safety in mind, and a strong will to get the best office furniture for your company.

Home Improvement Contractors
There are thousands of home improvement contractors out there, each one specialising in different aspects of home improvement. Some are designers, plumbers, electricians, engineers, joiners and interior designers. They all have their specific fields in home improvement and no one can do without the other.
When taking chunks out of your house and adding new parts to on it, it is always best to turn to the specialists. Whether it involves introducing a new bathroom or replacing an old bathroom it is always great to have someone else do it all for you. Home improvement contractors are not always very expensive. It is possible to find inexpensive and great contractors, all materials and labour costs are to be paid for by you. Ask around your town, your friends and family and see who they recommend. It is always best to go with a recommended contractor!
Other ways of home improvements are re styling your home; now who is to say you have to go for it alone? There are lots of interior designers out there who are very willing to help people re furnish and style their houses to get the look that they are looking for. They tend to be quite expensive even though they are really only consultants; you have to pay for all materials and the hours that they are telling you how to choose fabrics and so on. In my opinion it’s not worth it unless you have money.
Home improvement contractors are a great way to get the big modifications done, all contractors should be registered with a governing body and follow all licenses and terms and conditions. If you are looking for small jobs then I would recommend that you get a family member to help you or you can try it yourself, you don’t have to pay for everything!
When choosing a contractor, whether it is for a large or small job make sure that you see their certificates and the materials that they are using before the job is started as when it is in progress and you decide you don’t like their way of doing things, they still have the right to charge for the work that they have done so far!

Home Improvement Companies
Home improvement companies are ten to a penny! They are everywhere all battling it out between them to keep the work going so now is a better time than ever to get any home improvements done as the companies are fighting to keep the prices low as possible. Home improvement companies are generally male dominated and therefore it is very hard for a woman to get into the profession, although the women that are in are really good! Companies are always striving to reach new targets and to put each other out of business so why not take up those great offers advertised at the moment?!
All home improvement companies are supposed to be registered or licensed in some way or another, this makes their services legal and legit, therefore ensuring that all the work that they carry out will be covered by your insurances, warranties and guarantees. If you have work carried out by people who claim they are professionals and they are not the law sees this as a fault on your part for not checking out their credentials!
There is a lot of money to be made in opening up a home improvement company, labour charges are usually high and out of hours charges are absolutely phenomenal! Materials though can be purchased at cost and resold on to your clients for a higher price which is again another way to make money!
Home improvement companies are a fast growing industry and as I have said there is lots of money to be made if you are in the right place at the right time, these types of companies need a lot of marketing before anything will happen and word of mouth is a great marketing technique; also adverts in the local papers and magazines are a great way to get some notice!
These types of companies, although in great numbers, are still profiting very well! Everyone needs some type of home improvement every now and then so it makes sense that this is the type of business that will profit, yes the hours are long and the work is hard but in the end it all pays off, with a big fat check at the end of the month!
Aquarium Lighting
Aquariums need light for the fish to survive, this doesn’t matter if it is a freshwater set up or a marine set up. There are however different types of lights available for each one. A lot of fish require different lighting conditions; your fish shop will advise you which is best for the fish that you are keeping.
Fluorescent lighting is best for brightly coloured fish this gives the impression of bold colours and a mysterious effect in the tank which makes the fish stand out even more. All aquarium lights are available in the different sizes to suit your tank, as there are lots different sizes of tanks available. Most tanks don’t come with lights attached to the hood of the tank. They need to be purchased separately; this is expensive as you also need to buy the attachment for the lights as well.
There are harder lights needed for marine tanks, the reefs that can be made in these tanks need a lot of pure light and getting a lot of light means a large and expensive light bulb! The corals and anemones need a lot of light and sensitivity to survive, so lights should be a great factor in your aquarium if you are going to be setting up a coral reef.
Aquarium lighting is available at all fish and pet shops, they are easy to install but are very overpriced. I think, you can probably find second hand lights better but be sure to make sure that they are working before you purchase them or that was a waste of money.
Lighting your aquarium is essential that is how your tank is defined, if your lights are cheap and nasty then don’t expect a good look in your tank, but if you spend that extra on good reliable and beautiful lights then you are sure to have a fish tank set up that is worth looking at! Explore all different colours of lights as well don’t just stick to white there are pink, green and blues out there too, experiment with them and see what best suits your tank!
